The recession has led to an increase in the number of personal injury claims made as a result of accidents at work, according to a law firm in the North East.
The firm stated that it has witnessed a significant rise in the number of work accident claims made during recent months as employers focus more on their finances.
Previous research found that over 60 per cent of employees believe that their employers have been placing health and safety towards the bottom of their priority list as a result of the economic downturn.
The numbers of fatalities and personal injuries as a result has soared.
A spokesperson from the firm said: "It is understandable that many businesses are currently taking actions to reduce costs, but it is vital that workers' safety is not compromised."
