Medics inject children with expired vaccinations
A number of children in India suffered health problems after they were accidently injected with an out of date vaccinations as a result of professional negligence. The children had attended a medical camp in Hooghly for an anti-Japanese encephalitis vaccination. However, a local resident who took his son to the camp for the injection noticed that the drugs were in fact expired. As a result, a number of residents began demonstrating leaving senior health officials with no option but to suspend the vaccination programme.A number of children were then hospitalised after experiencing health problems such as breathing difficulties following the injections.According to a doctor, "The toxic effect of the injections may bring severe health hazards. The side-effects depend on how old there injections are."He believed that the health workers had been negligent as it failed to check the manufacture date and the expiry date before injecting them into the children. The children are now under 24 hour observation. It is unknown whether any of the parents of the children will file a compensation claim agaisnt the district health authority.
