A pensioner has been awarded £20,000 in compensation after being pinned down by a heater due to the negligence of a cowboy worker.
The 87 year old from Worthing, Sussex, suffered personal injuries after a heater fell on her.
She spent six weeks in hospital suffering from severe burns, a fractured hip and a broken ankle, and is now unable to walk, is suffering from vertigo and has blackouts as a result of the accident.
She said: “Before all this I was very energetic and very young for my age.”
The workman was found liable for her injuries as he failed to ensure the heater was installed safely.
His insurers admitted liability and agreed to settle the claim for £20,000.
The pensioner said: I’m going to treat myself my going to Bournemouth for a month and blowing the whole lot on a holiday. I’ve never been in a hotel or had a holiday in my life so it will be a big occasion for me.”
