£5,000 for "life-changing" injuries

A carpenter will £5,000 in compensation after suffering multiple personal injuries as a result of a work accident.

The worker fell five meters when he was performing building work at a London based school.

As a result of the fall he was hospitalised for six weeks suffering from fractured ribs, a fractured collar bone, a dislocated thumb and air in his chest cavity.

He was unable to work for six months.

According to the health and safety inspector, the man had "sustained life-changing injuries which could easily have proved fatal."

His employer was fined over £18,000 and was ordered to pay £5,000 to the worker for his injuries.
