Met pays out £400,000 in compensation

A mechanic has been awarded £400,000 in compensation from the Metropolitan police after suffering from personal injuries when attempting to repair a police car, it has been revealed.

The 39 year old mechanic from Kent, had injured his index and middle fingers when he cut himself on a knife that was wedged on the driver’s seat of the police vehicle.

He had to have his wedding ring cut off as a result as well as a number of stitches and went back to work as a mechanic.

However, after two years, he was diagnosed with complex regional pain syndrome and was forced to give up his job.

He filed a claim for £1 million in compensation claiming that the accident had prevented him from leading a normal life.

Yet according to the Met’s legal team- who had admitted liability, the man had exaggerated the extent of his disabilities, and with the help of an injury lawyer, a £400,000 award had been settled in court.

Other than that, it just makes you wonder what the knife was doing there in the first place…
