Holidaymakers to return to large debts

As a large number of Brits head off on holiday despite the downturn of the current climate, a majority of them may face finding themselves in larger debts on their return, it has been revealed.

According to research by a price comparison website, the cost of using a credit and debit card abroad has soared within the last year.

Statistics revealed that users now pay an estimation of £754 million on their debit and credit card repayments, up by 6 per cent from 2008.

A spokesperson from the website said: "With foreign card usage fees continuing to creep in the wrong direction over the last 12 months, this, coupled with crippling exchange rates, means that holidaymakers will certainly be feeling the pinch this year.”

As a result, users have been advised to search and compare credit cards to find the one that best suits them.
