Millions put aside to cover mistakes of NHS

Millions of pounds have been put aside to pay for the mistakes of the NHS, it has been revealed.

The Primary Care Trusts have put £713 million to a side to cover the costs of the growing number of medical negligence claims made against the NHS.

It is believed that the NHS may face a further 80 per cent increase in the number of compensation claims made to cover costs of its soaring number of mistakes.

Medical Defence Union member Dr. Karen Roberts said: "Of course, claimants who have been negligently harmed by their doctor should be compensated, but a system that provides solicitors' firms with rewards which dwarf the value of a claim needs to be reformed."
