The Association of British Insurers (ABI) is criticising the recent decision by the Scottish Parliament to compensate asbestos victims, it has been revealed.
ABI is angering the hundreds of the Mirror’s asbestos campaigners by arguing that victims should not be compensated for pleural plaques.
Nick Starling, director of general insurance and health at ABI said that “although anyone who has suffered ill health at the hands of a negligent employer should get fair compensation and care…calls for compensation and the recent decision of the Scottish Parliament to compensate for plaques north of the border, are based on a misunderstanding of the facts."
Asbestos related diseases can be deadly. Mesothelima is a disease related to asbestos. It can be developed through exposure to asbestos through work accidents.
